One of the scariest, most stressful stages of a baby's development into toddlerhood occurs when they learn to climb stairs...without knowing how to come back down...never checking for bum room before deciding to sit down half-way up the stairs for a rest. I don't like this stage. As soon as they start climbing stairs, I start trying to teach them to come down on their own. Ellie hasn't had a fall yet and I dread the inevitable one that is waiting to happen. Hopefully someone will be there to catch her. Charlie is such a mother hen and screams if she sees Ellie approach the top of one of the five flights of stairs in their house.
Here she is on her way up - probably wondering what the big deal is. She's so proud of herself.

In the second photo she sort of looks likes she's just realized what she's gotten herself into - although probably she's just thinking "why are you staring at me?"
i like......
Oh think I'd be pulling out the gate I save for this stage!!But aren't the photos so cute!!
Aww, those are adorable pictures. But... if I had stairs, I'd be a nervous mommy too!
she fell down the stairs today after you left.
I don't like them on the stairs anymore than you do, but how else are they gonna learn. I think I would have taken off those pants she was wearing, they look like they could cause a stair accident in a heartbeat, even if in adult size, but I am accident prone and would trip over anything. Cute pics of her performing acrobatic death-defying feats. And then to hear she actually did fall down the stairs, scary! Hope she was okay.
