My Style

I've been scrapping now for half a dozen years, struggling with my unartistic self to discover my true style. I buy all the scrapbook magazines and go through them marking layouts I like and think I could copy ("Scraplift", in the world of scrapbookers). When I showed this layout that I'd just completed to Lloyd last night, he said that this was his favorite style that I do. And I agree. I'm a very linear, everything has to balance, type of scrapbooker. That's what I am and I'm not going to fight it anymore. Although you will notice that I rebelled and put "THE" at an angle!!

Since most of my scrapbooking concerns events, where I have upwards of 200 photos to work with, I like doing multi-picture layouts - saves paper and tells a story more effectively. Again keeping everything balanced and even.

Occasionally I'll break out of my linear style (usually to scraplift a layout or to work from a kit) and create something especially nice, as this one of Brooklyn I did awhile ago - scraplifted.

And sometimes I'll go circular

Here's one of my favorites - linear, circular, handwritten journalling and bling. I love bling but have hard time figuring out where and when to use it.

So, although I'm basically a linear person, it's fun to see what I can do when I work 'out of the box'.

Boxes of Fun

The kids found a box - they grabbed the cat, put him in the box, he jumped out...repeatedly. At one point someone (maybe it was Grammie) opened the patio door and Whitey made good his escape.

Not to let a good opportunity get away, they grabbed the baby and manhandled her into the box. She was not impressed.

In an effort to keep Elly from freaking out - and to join in the fun - Charlie and Max climbed into the box too.

Elly still wanted out - her new toy promised to be so much more fun than a dumb old cardboard box.

Max was the last to exit the box. He had more fun than Whitey, Elly and Charlie put together.

Maybe someday he'll get a real toy to play with :)

Yesterday's Crop Results

Mickey, Emily and I spent almost 7 hours at Scrap-A-Lot yesterday at our own private crop. We were all very productive and it was good to get together again and work on our scrapbooks.

I'm still working on my family reunion pictures from June - I've done about 24 layouts already but still have lots more to do. I finished up the family group layouts though - the last three are posted here. I did them all with the same coordinating paper. The rest of the album will be done using a variety of papers.

Although they weren't married till August, I called this Emily and Allan Taylor.

This is Mike's family.

And the Bournes - Mary is pregnant in these pictures - Baron was born in August. He'll be included at the next reunion :)

I like this pensive picture of me with two of the little people and included at least one representative from each of our seven children's families n the small pictures.

Scary Stuff

One of the scariest, most stressful stages of a baby's development into toddlerhood occurs when they learn to climb stairs...without knowing how to come back down...never checking for bum room before deciding to sit down half-way up the stairs for a rest. I don't like this stage. As soon as they start climbing stairs, I start trying to teach them to come down on their own. Ellie hasn't had a fall yet and I dread the inevitable one that is waiting to happen. Hopefully someone will be there to catch her. Charlie is such a mother hen and screams if she sees Ellie approach the top of one of the five flights of stairs in their house.

Here she is on her way up - probably wondering what the big deal is. She's so proud of herself.

Impromptu Bath

Ellie got really, really dirty today crawling around on the deck. The tops of her feet and every piece of exposed skin got dirty - sand, slurpee juice, cheezie dust, and just general grime. I took her to the bathroom to get a facecloth to wash her face and hands and ended up stripping her down and sitting her in the sink full of water for a bath. She's a bit big for this type of bath, but it's all I felt like getting involved in in the middle of the afternoon. She loved it and the bathroom got a splash cleaning in the process!

I love the reflection of her head in the mirror - it shows such vulnerability and sweet babyness. Look how dirty that water is. Hard to believe a baby can get so dirty in a few hours of play.

Guest Photographer

I haven't taken any pictures since returning from Arizona and was wondering what to put in my blog. Then Kenzie and Sydney came down and Kenzie started taking pictures with my small camera. This is the one I like best. It's Kenzie's little sister, Sydney - 3 years old. Love her eyes!

Remember This Name...

Mark MacKenzie.

On our last night in Arizona we got together with our nephew Mark to celebrate his birthday with some extended family down there. Mark lives here in Alberta but has been working with some music producers in AZ, one of whom produces for Lyle Lovett, on his first professional CD. Mark has a beautiful voice and writes a lot of his own songs so we're all hoping that when this CD comes out, he'll get lots of air time and begin a successful music career. We're all cheering for him.

After dinner at a local restaurant we all went back to someone's home where Mark performed some of the songs from his CD for us. Good sounds and lots of fun.

And now we're home, missing Arizona already.
